Grousebuster Gundogs is a small kennel located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northeastern Kentucky. We are about an hour northeast of Lexington, KY and about two hours southeast of Cincinnati, OH. We also have a hunting camp in northern Minnesota where we spend a lot of time each fall pursuing ruffed grouse and woodcock.
We pride ourselves on raising German Shorthaired Pointers to suit the most discriminating foot hunter. While hunting wild birds is our passion, our dogs are also very well suited for hunt tests and walking field trials. We raise medium sized dogs that have intelligence, classic good looks and superb noses. Our dogs are loaded with natural ability and for the wild bird hunter, should require very little training.
All of our puppies are very well socialized and come from dogs that have proven themselves on wild birds. While a dog that is accomplished on wild birds can handle pen-raised birds with ease, it does not always mean that a dog that looks good on pen-raised birds can handle wild birds. This is why we feel that wild birds are the ultimate measuring stick in evaluating dogs that are being considered as breeding stock, and there is no wilder bird than the Ruffed Grouse. Combine bird sense, a high level of trainability and that all-important "off switch" that makes them a pleasure to live with, and you have the ultimate hunting companion.
When you purchase a pup from us, you get continued support for the life of your dog. If there is anything we can do to help with your new companion, we are more than happy to do so.
One thing that we are doing more and more of is helping customers when it's time to start their pup on birds. If you purchase a pup from us and are within driving distance, we encourage you to bring your pup, when it's at the appropriate age, and we will show you how to get started. We keep birds to train with and truly enjoy seeing new owners and pups getting started on the right foot. This is all at no charge.
Feel free to contact us any time, whether it's to come by for a visit or just to talk dogs.
Thanks a lot!
